1. Why is LPG cheaper than petrol and diesel?
LPG attracts a far lower tax duty than conventional fuel. Currently the duty on petrol is around 50p per litre compared to only 8p per litre for LPG.
2. Will using LPG influence my engine performance?
There is a no perceivable loss in engine performance when using LPG. However, in many cases, the engine will be more refined due to superior fuel distribution in the intake manifold. Engine wear can also be reduced as the protective oil film on the cylinder wall is not washed away by the fuel.
3. Can you convert a diesel?
No.
4. Where can I fill up with LPG?
At present there are approximately 1400 LPG filling stations in the UK, with this number growing all the time.
5. Where is the LPG tank fitted?
The location of the LPG tank is largely dictated by your vehicle or application requirements. In most cases the LPG tank is located in the space occupied by the spare wheel as this retains the most boot space although this does mean that the spare wheel may have to be discarded. To overcome this, a can of puncture repair solution is supplied so that you are not left stranded.
6. Is LPG safe?
LPG is as safe, if not safer than petrol. Every LPG tank is rigorously impact tested with a weight of over 10 tonnes before the LPG Association can approve it. All of our LPG tanks have built-in safety features that automatically cut off the flow of gas in the event of an impact.
7. Will I be stranded if I run out of LPG?
No, the Autogas system continually monitors the LPG level and will automatically return the vehicle to its original fuel supply if the LPG supply is exhausted. As long as you have a reserve of conventional fuel you will never be stranded.
8. Does the LPG system need to be serviced?
Yes, although the only servicing required is an annual filter change and an overall inspection.
9. How long will it take for my car to be converted to LPG?
On average a conversion should take between 4 and 5 days depending on the nature of the conversion. Larger vehicles that may require multiple fuel tanks may be needed for a slightly longer period.
